We’re thrilled to share a sneak peek at LabXchange’s forthcoming Racial Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Science Education (RDEISE) project.

What Is the Racial Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Science Education Project?

LabXchange is committed to creating equitable opportunities for success in science. Developed in collaboration with leading scholars and experts, RDEISE will comprise two new learning clusters that support educators and guide learners. This new content will show how to apply critical thinking skills to identify and transform structures that sustain racial inequity in healthcare, education, and STEM fields in the US.

The animation “What is an Inclusive Classroom” forms part of our second learning cluster, “Inclusive and Antiracist Teaching Strategies.” It introduces key characteristics of an inclusive learning environment, and presents active learning techniques that educators can use to cultivate an inclusive classroom.

Across STEM fields, the legacy of racism can be seen in the disproportionate underrepresentation of racialized groups such as Black Americans. To increase diversity in science and diverse leadership in science, science teachers must be equipped with inclusive teaching strategies. The “Inclusive and Antiracist Teaching Strategies” cluster contains evidence-based practices to help educators increase Black students’ sense of belonging, identity, and success in science.

Over the next few months, we’ll be discussing inclusive teaching strategies and principles in our new Inclusive Classrooms blog series. Subscribe to our newsletter for future blog posts and to stay up-to-date with the RDEISE project in 2023.
