National Chemistry Week (October 20–26) was created in 1989 to bring awareness to the important role that chemistry plays in everyday life. To celebrate this week, we're highlighting a selection of chemistry-related learning resources and collaborators from our library. Through the resources listed below, explore the fundamentals of the field, learn how to perform important lab procedures, try some hands-on chemistry experiments in the classroom, and read the career stories of real chemists!
Where better to start than with an introduction? Our Introduction to Chemistry cluster explores the foundational concepts of chemistry and aims to spark curiosity for chemistry in new learners.
Chemistry quite often involves hands-on work in a lab. These resources cover some of the lab techniques that chemists may encounter through their work, from the basic to the more specialized.
We can all remember those flashy, fun experiments that wowed us in grade-school chemistry class. (Elephant's toothpaste, anyone?) Here are a few demonstrations to try at home or in the classroom!
What does working in the field of chemistry actually look like? These narratives highlight some of the paths that scientists studying chemistry have taken and the important work that they do.
Over 100 of our content collaborators have contributed chemistry-themed learning resources to the LabXchange library. A handful of these amazing organizations are listed below—check out the rest here!
To round out all the learning resources listed above, we considered ending this post with a humorous chemistry joke. Ultimately, however, we were afraid it wouldn't get much of a reaction!
