Using Virtual Labs to Teach Science Remotely
7/30/20 UPDATE: This workshop is now FULL. Please subscribe to our mailing list for new workshop opportunities about incorporating virtual labs in your curriculum and other updates!
This workshop is appropriate for all secondary and undergraduate educators familiar with LabXchange and interested in exploring how to incorporate virtual lab simulations into their curriculum.
Workshop Description
This 1.5-hour workshop with LabXchange will explore ways to pivot your lab-based molecular biology or biotechnology curriculum to online or remote learning using virtual lab simulations. We ask participants to bring an assignment, worksheet or other experience you use to assess student experimental skills.
In this workshop, you will work with other participants to:
- Identify the core science inquiry and lab skills you want to develop and assess with students;
- Become familiar with the design and possible uses of LabXchange virtual lab simulations;
- Create materials to incorporate and support a virtual lab simulation into your curriculum.
We cap attendance at this workshop at 20 participants per session. Also, we ask accepted participants to complete a brief pre-work assignment prior to attending the workshop session. Moreover, you may forfeit your spot to someone else on the waiting list if the pre-work is not completed.
Participants can earn 10 PDPs by completing all workshop requirements.
